2011 – 2012

  • The Women’s Voluntary Services Association, A Non-Profit Service Organization, Aims at an Enlisting the Valuable Services of Women of Coimbatore to Work Voluntarily for the Progress of the Poor and the Underprivileged.
  • The Wvs Has Been Serving The Community For Over Thirty Years. It is managed by a Committee of Honorary Members Headed by the Collector’s Wife as Director and Other Office Bearers.
  • A Special School For Mentally Challenged Children And A Vocational Training Center Function At Our Premises In Kavundampalayam.
  • The Wvs Of Coimbatore Has 4 Patron Members, 9 Life Members And 85 Ordinary Members.
  • The Wvs Association Runs A Vocational Training Centre, Where It Conducts Courses From Time To Time In Tailoring And Craft For The Benefit Of The Women Residing In That Area As Well As Frequent Courses In Pickle, Soap Making Etc. So That The Women can Have An Opportunity To Use This Knowledge To Be Financially Independent.
  • Plans For Starting A Papper Bag Making Project Is In The Works And Will Be Fully Functional In The Coming Year.
  • The Wvs Special School Caters To The Needs Of Mentally Challenged And Speech And Hearing Impaired Children Who Need Special Attention. There Are 46 Children in the School with 6 Specially Trained Teachers of Whom 4 Are Special Educators .
  • The student’s teacher ratio is 1:8 and constant evaluation and monitoring ensure that children improve and are placed in classes as per their aptitude.
  • A full-time occupational therapist, physiotherapist and speech therapist provide the children with therapy to suit each child’s needs.
  • The children are educated as well as trained according to their disability. The WVS wants the children to be helpful at home and to lead a meaningful life in future.
  • Vocational training will be imparted to children so that they can find a place in society when they leave school. The children and their escorts have been issued bus passes to make travel easier for them.
  • The school is constantly improving on its facility by purchasing state of the art equipment for the children, as well as upgrading its other facilities.
  • The physiotherapy and occupational therapy department was updated with purchase of special equipment d suited to the children’s needs in the course of this year.
  • On September 17th ayutha pooja and Saraswathi pooja were celebrated. Kolu arrangements were made by the teachers.
  • Diwali, Children day was celebrated at the special school. Pongal celebration was held on January 14th at the school

ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2011-12

JUNE 2011

  • We have inaugurated our Vocational Unit on 8th June by our Jt.Dt.Director. We installed one paper bag machine and our students start making paper bags.
  • We have followed a monthly theme, Theme of the month was Railways, teachers arranged theme corner and taught about trains, names of the trains which is coming to Coimbatore. During art session, students were taught to paint train picture and to draw pictures related to the theme.
  • Occupational therapist and physiotherapist has started the warm-up session for the educable and trainable students.
  • In order to improve the subject knowledge, we are following glossary test, given new words to find out meaning.
  • On 16th June We had Eye camp for children and parents organized by Aravind Eye Hospital

JULY 2011

  • Occupational therapist and physiotherapist are giving warm-up session for the educable and trainable students.
  • Students were taught to make paper bags by using old news papers.
  • Students were taken to VOC Park to see the train and to experience the train journey as a part of the monthly them.
  • We had seminar on the topic “autism symptoms, types and educational plan.
  • Uniform slipper were distributed to the students

AUGUST 2011

  • We have celebrated Independence Day on 12 the August. Mr.Ravichandran GM Sales has hoisted the flag and Ms.Telma and Ms Yamuna has graced the occasion.
  • As a part of monthly theme students were taught to make vegetables by using clay and thermocol sheet. Also, students are getting training to differentiate the various type of measurements.
  • Mrs.Valli and Ms.B.Chithra have presented the seminar paper “Comparison of levels and types of mental retardation” and it was very informative and their presentation was fabulous

SEPTEMBER 2011

  • We have completed our I evaluation on 7th September, and this time the students have done well and overall performance is good. our educable students scored above 90% of marks in given subjects.
  • on 8th September we had the evaluation for teachers, dr.duraipandi Arunachalam of cms college visited and evaluated students profile sheet and answer papers.
  • He had the personal intervention with each teacher and meeting with all teaching and on teaching staff and given guidance and suggestion to work better for the differently abled children.
  • We have celebrated teacher’s day on 5th September, our treasurer Mrs Sugumari Subbaian attended and graced the occasion. Teachers were given entertainment programs.
  • On 16th September we had Teachers meeting, all teaching and non-teaching staff attended the meeting, had discussion on grouping children, preparing schedule and task for 2nd evaluation.
  • Our District Director Mrs.Hema Karunakaran has visited our school on 23rd September.
  • On 27th September we have kept kozhu and started our Navaratri celebration

OCTOBER 2011

  • We have celebrated Navaratri up to 4th October and Ayutha pooja on the same day. The pooja expenses were contributed by Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Coordinator and Ms.Valli.
  • Our students and teachers participated in Mental Health week organized by Avinashilingam Deemed University from 10.10.11 to 12.10.11. On 11.10.11 our children have participated in following cultural events.
  • On 22nd October we have organised parents meeting and family intervention program for Down syndrome children and family.,
  • On 25th October we have celebrated Diwali and B.Ed students from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya have conducted the sports events and distributed sweets and gifts to the student.
  • On 22nd October B.Ed students have presented the paper on “RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION”.
  • On 10th October our teachers Mrs.Vimala and Ms.B.Chithra and coordinator have attended “AN INTERACTIVE SESSION ON MENTAL HEALTH’ presented by Dr.Ponni Muralidharan.
  • On 12th October our teachers Mrs.Latha and Mrs.Chithra have attended the lecture on “ADOLESCENT MIND’ presented by Mrs.R.Sathya Sundari. Mrs.Valli and coordinator have attended the special lecture on “RECENT TRENDS IN MENTAL HEALTH’ presented by Dr.K.Radhakrishnan.
  • Our teachers Ms.Lakshmi and Ms.B.Chithra have attended the seminar on 12th 13th and 14th conducted by Avinashilingam University -Special.Education Department and the topics were CRE on Inclusive Education and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

NOVEMBER 2011

  • Our students and 4 teachers were attended world disabled day organised by DDRO and Down Syndrome society and bagged 4 prizes.Our school has organized Interschool cultural competition on 17th October on the eve of Children’s Day.
  • Four schools have participated and our member Smt.Mohana has attended and distributed the prizes.
  • Our sponsor Ms.Telma and Ms.Yamuna has judged the fancy dress competition. P.S.G.Krishnammal primary school teachers Ms.Banupriya. Our teachers Ms.Lakshmi and Ms.B.chithra have presented Seminar on Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Ms.Agila has taught yoga for Down syndrome students and given training to our teachers.

DECEMBER 2011

  • We have organized world disabled day along with Indian red cross on 3rd December on the eve of world disabled day.
  • We had dental camp on 13th December and the same was organized by Vasan dental care.
  • We have conducted one day workshop on “Behaviour therapy for autistic children” on 17th December.
  • The resource persons are the psychiatrist, psychologist, occupational therapist and a special educator. We had 60 participants including our teachers and therapists.
  • Our students have participated in cultural events organized by SAARATHY PAMMAC. Our student Kabilesh got the 1st prize in fancy dress and 3rd prize in drawing and group dance. Our students Haripriya and Saffna got the 2nd prize and 3rd prize respectively. Our students Umeshraj, Rishwand, Kabilesh got 3rd price in group dance.
  • We have started our evaluation on 19th December and completed on 22nd December.On 23rd December we have celebrated Christmas and lunch was provided to all the students and staff, which was sponsored by Mr.Ravichandran GM Sales Chandra Hyundai.

JANUARY 2012

  • We have celebrated Pongal on 12th of January. Teachers and students put rangoli and decorated with colours. Teachers were prepared Pongal and made Pooja and distributed Pongal to the students.
  • On 25th January we have celebrated Republic day. Our Treasurer Smt.Sugumari Subbaian has hoisted the flag and accepted our student’s flag salute.
  • The same day we have celebrated Sugumari Madam’s birthday and she has distributed cakes to the students. Our HR Executive Ms.Yamuna has participated and graced the occasion.
  • Students from Avinashilingam University have presented seminar on 21st January and the topic was “Essentials of Counseling and different techniques in counselling”.
  • On 28th January we have taken our students and parents to Aaliyar Dam. We had been to Masaniamman Temple, Aaliyar dam and Aquarium. Students and parents have enjoyed the trip.

FEBRUARY 2012

  • We have participated in SAHAYAM an inter-school cultural competition organised by Rotaract Club of Saibaba colony on 4th February at Avinashilingam University Campus. 15 of our children, three teachers Ms.Valli, Ms.B.Chithra and Ms.P.Lakshmi and coordinator have attended the event and our children won prizes in Group dance, Solo singing, Group singings, Essay competition and Gk test.
  • On 11th and 12th of February we have participated Rotary District Conference at CODDISSIA. We have exhibited our paper bags, envelopes, garlands and greeting cards and broachers.
  • On 24th February our students and 4 teachers were attended the exhibition at Amrita Centre for special needs

MARCH 2012

  • On 2nd March coordinator and Yamuna HR executive have visited Bangalore in order to get ideas to improve our academic activities and vocational training centre.
  • On 10 the march we have conducted parents meeting, the survey conducted by National trust representatives. We had nutritional counselling for our special children by Avinashilingam students.
  • On 13th March we have organized sports competition for our students and teachers.
  • On 22nd March we have celebrated Annual Day, our Dist Director Smt.Hema Karunakaran was the chief guest and our Secretary Smt.Ranganayaki, Smt.Sugumari, Smt.Kumutha, Smt.Lakshmi, Smt Kalavathi and Smt.Neelaveni have attended the function and graced the occasion.

OVER ALL ACTIVITIES

  • We have introduced Evaluation for OT and PT. Home work was given daily in major three subjects Maths, English and Tamil.
  • Special Educators were asked to submit weekly reports for every child therapists were given reports fortnightly.
  • Our website is updated and actions are taken to include our school name in major search engines, hence we are receiving queries and feedback from the public. We are celebrating student’s birthday in order to improve their socialization
